ART 101 Introduction to Art 5 credits
Introduces concepts and techniques used in the visual arts with an emphasis on art in the local community, other cultures and the contemporary world. Studio activities support the study of diverse artistic traditions and methods of creating art. Prerequisite: None (Recommend ENGL& 101 or WRIT 101, or concurrently).

Concepts, techniques, and processes of drawing, including line, value, texture, composition, representation and basic color theory. Independent projects may include advanced work in traditional printmaking techniques such as intaglio, relief, screen printing, and/or lithography, mixed media, experimental techniques, or book arts. Prerequisite: ART 140or instructor's permission.

Independent projects may include glaze calculation, alternate firing techniques such as raku and pit firing, ceramic sculpture, and advanced wheel throwing.
