SID and Pin Numbers
Student Identification Numbers
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records and cannot be released without written permission and photo identification. Students use their Student Identification Numbers (SID) to access Web services, to register for classes and retrieve unofficial transcripts and financial aid.
Although the Social Security Number will not be listed as the primary student identifier, the college still needs to record it for a number of uses: financial aid, Hope Scholarship, Lifelong Learning tuition tax credits, employment verification, workforce, unemployment data and transcripts.
Student Pin Numbers
Global Pin Numbers allow students access to their unofficial transcript and registration appointment. A Global pin is initially the student's birth date (mmddyy), unless the student changes it to a one-through-six-digit number. If a student has a cashier's or parking fine, access is not permitted.
Quarterly Pin Numbers allow students to register for credited classes, access their quarterly class schedule and add themselves to a waitlisted class. Quarterly pins can be either the student's birth date (mmddyy) or an assigned six-digit number selected randomly by the administrative software for those students needing advising. If a student has not been enrolled consecutively (missing two or more quarters), access to register is not permitted.
